Get the Beauty Look: Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019

Phew! Fashion Month is over, and I’ve finally been able to catch my breath and do a bit of reflecting. This season’s beauty trends differed greatly between each city, so it’s been incredibly interesting to flip through each runway recap and see how every designer positioned the beauty future of their muses. The designers of Milan Fashion Week are known for glamour, sex appeal and experimentation, and they brought each of those qualities to their models’ faces.

Now, let’s walk through those looks and I’ll let you know what products you can use to recreate them for yourself!

When we talk about Italian fashion, we talk about Versace. It’s a storied house, with decades of legendary looks and just as legendary models having stomped its runways. When we say Versace, we picture luxury, an almost unattainable level of cool that could only come from having grown up with pool boys in mansions made of solid gold. Today’s Versace girl incites the same level of envy, with a definitive street style beat. Take the dramatic acid green eyeliner look above, paired with slicked back hair and pale lips. This Italian icon has taken on a bit of an edge - here’s how you can too:

  • While I’m fairly certain that the actual eyeliner shade that Pat McGrath used on Versace models this season is a not-yet-released shade from her own collection, I do have a few ideas for how you can recreate the look now!

  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Junkie: This creamy formula is known for its staying power, but subtle shimmer will give you the glimmer that Pat achieved in her Versace look. Start by drawing a line that follows the shape of the eye through the crease, then create a straight wing out to the tail of your brow. Fill in the empty space on your lid and voila! You’re basically a Versace girl.

Prada

Prada may singlehandedly bring pixie cuts back into the mainstream, but its their Spring 2019 beauty look that I’m most entranced by. Prada models were given a fresh faced, wide-eyed innocent look this season, accented by bleached brows and fluttery lashes placed on the edges of the eye. Want to rock this unconventional look? Here’s how:

  • Jolen Crème Bleach: I did a bit of research on the best DIY facial hair bleach with which to lighten your brows an Jolen was the choice over and over again. It’s strong enough to take your brows a few shades lighter, without burning them off your face.

  • Ardell Individuals Medium Black Lashes: Use individual lashes to achieve this fluttery effect. Place a few lashes on the outer edges of your eyes to make them appear more open and doe-like, then load up your natural lashes with mascara, particularly on the lower lash line.

Missoni

Missoni’s washed out photos made it hard to see this beauty look in an accurate light (🙄), but if you squint a little harder and focus in on the eyes, you’ll see that they’re lit up with a mint green inner corner. Pastels for spring? Not so groundbreaking, but when it’s used on the eyes it can be MAJOR. Here’s how you can integrate this glowing look into your everyday arsenal:

  • Tarte Limited-Edition Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner in Mint: This look is more glossy than powdered down, so use a cream shadow to achieve it. This product from Tarte can come off a bit thick and opaque, so use it sparingly to create a sheer wash of color that starts in the inner corner and fades away as you blend onto the lid. To make it even glossier, warm a bit of Vaseline with your fingers and dab it over your lid for a wet look without any stickiness.

Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana always brings it when it comes to runway beauty. Their penchant for classic Italian glamour shines every season as they reimagine what a red lip and a thick cat eye can look like. This season, lip color varied in temperature depending on the models’ skin tone: fairer women wore a more fuchsia tone while those with warm skin wore bold reds. Here are my picks for best matte, opaque lipsticks:

  • Nars Audacious Lipstick in Greta: Go for this densely pigmented fuchsia shade if your skin is on the fairer side. It will brighten your complexion and complement your thick winged liner without coming off overdone.

  • Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in Okurrr: Are we surprised that the red shade that came out of the Khloe collaboration is perfect? It’s bright, bold and opaque AF - perfect for adding a bit of fun to a dramatic look.

Milan was inspiring as always, but it’s time to move on to the next Fashion Month destination: Paris! Let me know which of these products you’re going to try in the comments below, and I’ll see you in the City of Lights.
