July Recap + August Goals
I would like to be able to say that I didn't know what has held me back from writing a post these last few months, but that's not the truth. The truth is, it's not that I've been too busy. It's not that I haven't wanted to write. It's not that I've had the worst case of writer's block that I've ever had.
It's that I've prioritized other things. This blog has long been both a place for me to express the millions of creative ideas that are floating around inside my mind, and a place that taunts me with its potential for excellence and success, making me hesitate for fear that I won't be able to live up to all of the expectations that I'm placing on myself.
You see, I'm a goal-setter. I'm someone who thrives on lists, benchmarks, and deadlines. I love the feeling of proving someone (even myself) wrong, crossing that final item off of a checklist and basking in the thrill of accomplishment.
I also have a fear of failure. It's an interesting combination of personality traits and it often results in actions (or rather, inactions) that lean in favor of "doing it later", which actually means "doing it never".
Today, I felt different for the first time in months. I felt ready to jump back into writing about the things that I'm personally interested in. I feel ready to set some goals and actually follow through on them.
I'm taking full advantage of this mindset and starting a new series here, getting a little more personal with you and sharing my goals for the next month, as well as a recap from the past month. Let's start with where I'm at right now.
I moved into my very first home. That's right, I (along with my boyfriend) bought a house. It's 118 years old and it is perfect in every way (except for the faucet in the kitchen sink - that's gotta go).
I tried to catch up on my reading goals for the year (you can follow along with me on Goodreads), and didn't quite make it.
I've been cooking regularly, thanks to HelloFresh!
I have not, spoiler alert, been working out. Whoops.
As you can see, I haven't written a blog post in a very, very long time. Today, I decided to change that.
Stock the fridge with healthy snack and meal options. I'm known to choose the least healthy thing in the pantry every time, so if there were less jalapeño Pringles and more vegetables, I think my body would be a little happier with me.
Fully unpack and set up my office space in my new home.
Seek out one way to become more involved in my new community.
Catch up to my yearlong reading goal.

Exercise 3 days a week for 30 minutes.
During the week, only drink water. Soda and other fun beverages can wait until the weekend.
Write one blog post every week.
Commit to a nighttime routine: from skincare to an "unplugged" hour before bed.
Show up on Instagram Stories. It's fun to share my day with you!
