Manifesting My Way Through 2018

2018 is going to be BIG.

After a year of turmoil, accomplishment and, like, realizing stuff, I have a plan for making this year work in my favor. For once, I'm going into a new year with a vision for what will come out of it and what steps I'm going to take to achieve certain goals. I've spent the past year putting new habits into practice, trying out journaling and goal-setting on for size, but there was one theory that resulted in a major shift in the way that I look at making things happen: the law of attraction.

What's the Law of Attraction?

To put it simply: the law of attraction says that if you want something - really truly want it - the universe will conspire to help you get it. This is all based on the idea that everything in the world has energy, even your thoughts, and that if you put something out into the universe it will come to fruition.

Let's use getting fit as an example. The law of attraction says that if you tell yourself, "I am going to be in shape in 2018", it will happen. Now, the law of attraction isn't magic - you're still going to have to do the work. The point is that you're keeping this affirmation at the front of your mind and will then take the steps needed to make it happen. You're framing it in a positive way, with so much conviction that it feels like it's already come true. Once you've said it enough, you've convinced yourself, and the universe, that it's going to happen - and so it will.

The law of attraction can work in the opposite way as well. If you're always telling yourself "I'm lazy", or "I just don't like working out", then that's what the universe is hearing - and so it will be.

...Does it work?

In my experience, yes!

After hearing about the Law of Attraction through a few books and podcasts, I decided to try it for myself. Late last year I was looking for a new position. I had found a listing for one that sounded absolutely incredible: I'd get to work on my content-writing skills, work from home and be a part of an innovative culture promoting travel and international empathy. I knew immediately that I wanted to apply, so I put my first affirmation into the universe.

"I'm going to get this job."

After saying it out loud, I worked on updating my resumé and spent a considerable amount of time drafting a cover letter. Then, I sent it off.

"I'm going to get this job."

Soon after, I was offered a phone interview. Before getting on the call, I repeated my affirmation and practiced what I would say. I went on to participate in four interviews, each time manifesting my preferred outcome through my affirmation.

"I'm going to get this job."

After four interviews and a writing test, I received an offer. I can 100% say that I attribute this outcome to the law of attraction.

How to use the Law of Attraction in 2018

Here's where you come in: I want you to use the law of attraction to your advantage in 2018.

This is the time of year where everyone is making their resolutions, and I'm sure that you have a few in mind. Instead of forgetting them by the end of the month, pick two or three that you really want to accomplish this year. Make these your big, "dreamworld" goals, then use the law of attraction to achieve them.

My best advice would be to not go after everything at once. For this to work, your affirmation needs to be at the front of your mind at all times, so pick one goal you want to start with.

"I'm going to read 50 books this year."

"I am going to get a promotion."

"I'm going to start my own business."

"I am going to meet my soulmate."

Looking for other ways to bring the law of attraction into your year? Some people swear by creating vision boards, so that they can see their goals in front of them every day. A few books that I would recommend on this subject are Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo and You are a Badass by Jen Sincero. I would also suggest listening to The Lively Show podcast if you want to deep-dive into the theory!

Trust me, the law of attraction really works. I'm using it to manifest my biggest dreams in 2018. Will you join me? Keep me updated on your journey in the comments, or tag me on Instagram or Twitter!
