Pre-Spring Break Beauty Routine

Taylor Swift 1989 Sunglasses | With Spring Break right around the corner, I've been thinking about the best way to prepare myself for the imminent beach-side photo shoots that will be taking place.  My friends and I love taking photos of each other, both serious and silly, and if you're anything like us you know the struggle. You want to Instagram your entire vacation, and look natural and pretty in the pictures you post. Luckily, there are some steps you can add to your beauty routine before you leave that will ensure you're looking picture-perfect, without forcing you to spend any of your precious spring break focusing on how you look.

1. Start Moisturizing Now

The most important thing to know about preparing for a vacation is that moisturizing is IMPORTANT.  Whether you're heading somewhere warm or cold your skin is going to be in for a culture shock, and you can lessen its reaction by moisturizing ahead of time. In the week approaching travel, integrate both a moisturizing serum and a thick night cream into your routine. The serum will work to seal your skin's moisture layer and revitalize the surface layer of cells, while the night cream will lock the serum in. Don't be afraid to take this a step further by wearing a moisturizing mask on the plane.  The dry, recycled air that flows in an airplane can cause breakouts and dehydrated skin. I would recommend Sephora's one-use full-face masks, which come in different types for different skin issues.

2. Try a Blackhead Dissolving Scrub

If your skin is more prone to clogged pores, then consider using a blackhead dissolving scrub in the week leading up to your vacation. A scrub like Simple Skincare's Smoothing Facial Scrub will lift away the dry, dead skin that is making your skin appear dull, leaving it smocoth and luminous - picture perfect.

3. Use Coconut Oil in your Hair

Everyone wants to achieve beach waves. Whether your hair idol is Gisele, Jennifer Aniston, or Blake Lively the messy, textured look is the world's most-wanted. Ironically, the less work you put into this hairstyle the better. Simply hitting the beach and letting the salty air tousle your hair will help you achieve the style, but there is something you can do in advance to ensure your hair will stay looking healthy. Coconut oil, with its tropical scent, can be raked through damp hair to keep it soft and moisturized. If you prep your hair with coconut oil, your beach waves will look luscious instead of frayed and damaged.

4. Dry Brush your Body

If you're not familiar with the term "dry-brushing", now is the time to get familiar. Celebrities like Miranda Kerr (girl crush alert) use this technique to keep their skin soft year-round. While standing in your shower, use a natural bristle brush to brush your dry skin in large sweeping motions starting at your feet and moving toward your heart. You will be exfoliating dead skin and revealing the softer, smoother layers below while increasing circulation in your body to keep it looking youthful. Once you've brushed your entire body, shower like normal and make sure to moisturize when you're done! That new skin needs to be taken care of now that it's exposed to the world. If you dry brush everyday you'll see a significant difference in the appearance of your skin. Bring on the swimsuit pics!
