Confessions of a Model Snob: 2014 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
In case you haven't been able to tell from my posts, I'm a complete modelophile. No, that is not a real word, but it should be.
I have an obsession with the women (and men) who count themselves as a part of the modeling industry. The way that they are able to convey a story, an emotion, through a photo or a runway walk is mesmerizing to me. Most of the time that I spend reading magazines is spent looking at the ads, and attempting to decipher how the photo was chosen. Because of this tendency, I can name almost every model in the magazines, commericals, billboards and runway shows that I encounter. It's become a fun challenge for me to flip through the pages of a magazine and point out every model that I recognize.
If you've read my other posts you'll know that America's Next Top Model is one of the main reasons that I cultivated an interest in fashion. The show opened my eyes to the many different aspects of the industry and fostered my obsession with those who are a part of it. It's because of this interest that I started this blog, and it is because of this interest that I've decided to add a new recurring feature: Confessions of a Model Snob.
And, honestly, what better day to debut this column than on one of the greatest days of the modeling year?
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is one of the few runway shows that appeals to a mainstream audience. The pieces being shown are not high fashion gowns or avant garde creations, but rather gorgeous lingerie, much of which can be purchased by the average consumer. It is relatable, fun and kitschy, and I look forward to it every year.
The best part of the Fashion Show for me? You guessed it: the models. Victoria's Secret has a reputation for bringing out the superstars of the industry with past Angels including the likes of Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum and Miranda Kerr. Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima, both supermodels in their own right, have been Angels for nearly a decade. However, Victoria's Secret also likes to dip its hand into the high fashion cookie jar from time to time: Cara Delevingne, Magdalena Frackowiak, and Josephine Skriver have all modeled for the lingerie brand.
So who should you watch out for this year? My favorites are pictured below:
From L to R: Grace Mahary, Martha Hunt, Taylor Hill, Stella Maxwell, Behati Prinsloo
I'll be watching the 2014 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show at my campus's PINK party. Where will you be watching? Let me know in the comments!
